RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is warning people about a phone scam involving a man claiming to be a sheriff’s deputy. Investigators say a man is calling people from a local phone number and identifying himself as Madison County Sheriff’s Deputy James Marshall.
He reportedly told one man he called that the man’s wife had missed a court date for jury selection and that she needed to call back to “resolve the problem.”
Investigators say they called the number and that the man answered, “Madison County Sheriff’s Office.” When confronted, the man hung-up and an attempted call back led to a voice-mail greeting from Deputy James Marshall, according to investigators.
No one by the name James Marshall works for the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. Legitimate sheriff’s deputies have not been calling citizens about anyone missing court dates for jury selection.
Anyone who has received one of these calls is asked to contact the Madison County Sheriff’s Office at 859-623-1511.
