Legislation filed to raise minimum wage

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – House Speaker Greg Stumbo filed legislation on Wednesday that would provide the first increase to Kentucky’s minimum wage in nearly seven years.

Under House Bill 278, the state’s minimum wage would increase in three steps, going from the current $7.25 an hour to $10.10 an hour by July 2018.

Speaker Stumbo noted that his legislation is similar to the last minimum wage increase the general assembly passed in 2007 and became fully effective in 2009.
