LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Thanks to over 100 calls from concerned citizens, 79 homeless people were given rides to the Catholic Action Center on Sunday night, to wait out the worst of the cold in a safe, warm place. 18 folks declined rides, but accepted supplies like blankets and gloves.
However; the struggle isn’t over just yet. With bitter cold temperatures, snow, and ice predicted until Tuesday night, the Catholic Action Center says they will be open and hosting people 24 hours a day until Thursday
Compassionate Caravan is asking for donations of paper products – like plates, forks, napkins, and cups – as well as food.
Donations can be taken to the Catholic Action Center 400 E 5th St, 24 hours a day.
If you wish to join the Compassionate Caravan in reaching out to the unsheltered citizens of Lexington, just send an email to: email@example.com or call 859-913-0038.
Volunteers will be gathering again at 6 pm on Tuesday night, at 772 Winchester Rd.
