SCAM ALERT: Don’t fall for “Deputy James Marshal”

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Franklin Co. Sheriff Pat Melton is telling people to beware of a telephone scam making the rounds in Frankfort.

According to the Sheriff, someone is calling people identifying himself as “Deputy James Marshal.”  The man says he has a warrant for the arrest of the person being called, and asks for a fine to be paid over the phone.

Sheriff Melton says there is no Deputy Marshal working in the Sheriff’s Office, and that the office would never ask for a fine to be paid directly to any Deputy, Officer, or Trooper.

The Sheriff says about four people have called the office reporting the scam.  “Deputy Marshal” is calling from (502) 395-2268.
