“ALL CLEAR” given after gunman reported at state building in Frankfort

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Hundreds of employees at the Cabinet for Health and Family Services in Frankfort were able to return to their officers Wednesday afternoon after reports of an armed gunman forced them to evacuate.

The Franklin County Sheriff says someone called 911 Wednesday morning saying they saw a man with a gun in the building then someone else reported hearing gunshots on one of the floors.

About 2,100 people had to evacuate while law enforcement checked the building room-by-room.

The all clear was given around 2:30.

Kentucky State Police say the complaint may have been unfounded.

The sheriff says the woman who first called 911 was interviewed and the sheriff believes she was legitimately concerned that she saw someone with a gun but was possibly mistaken.
