LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A child helped to alert his family after a fire broke out on Tiverton Way in Lexington on Friday.
The Fire Department says the fire broke out around 9:00 a.m. The mother, Kimberly Owens, says her 4-year-old realized something was wrong in the house and woke her up. Owens says her bedroom was filling up with smoke, and that when she opened the door, she saw black smoke throughout the house.
Fire crews were able to knock the fire down quickly, saying the flames started in the kitchen. Investigators say there is heavy smoke damage and the family will not be able to stay there. Owens says the damage destroyed virtually everything in the kitchen. Her children’s clothes, as well, were lost to smoke damage.
She is asking if anyone can donate basic household items, clothes, or food, to bring them to 156 East Tiverton Way.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
