FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) – Dozens of law enforcement officers across Kentucky have been honored for their work to keep impaired drivers off the road.
The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety honored 142 law enforcement officers from 117 agencies at the 2015 Governor’s Impaired Driving Enforcement Awards ceremony.
The Transportation Cabinet said the ceremony was Wednesday in Louisville, and awards were given to officers with the most impaired-driving arrests in each agency.
The cabinet says last year in Kentucky, there were more than 4,300 crashes involving alcohol, resulting in more than 2,000 injuries and 113 deaths. The state also had more than 1,400 drug-related crashes, resulting in 939 injuries and 41 deaths.
The Office of Highway Safety, Kentucky State Police and other agencies are working together over the holidays to reduce impaired driving.
