AURORA, Ky. (AP) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says a western Kentucky bridge has reopened to traffic.
Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd told WPSD-TV (http://bit.ly/1SwxPCy) that the Eggners Ferry Bridge reopened at 5 a.m. Wednesday, about 22 hours after closing so workers could move the main arch of a new bridge into place. Marine traffic is still halted. Work to install the span is expected to continue throughout the day.
The $131.5 million bridge will replace the outdated span that carries U.S. 68/Kentucky 80 traffic over the Kentucky Lake-Tennessee River navigation channel and connects Aurora, Kentucky, to Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area.
