The Clark County Sheriff has a warning for joggers after a woman says she was sexually assaulted over the weekend while running along Veteran’s Memorial Bypass.
Sheriff Berl Perdue says a woman in her mid-thirties was jogging her normal route along Veteran’s Memorial Bypass Saturday morning when a man came up and sexually assaulted her.
The woman is ok, according to the sheriff but he fears a similar attack could happen again.
“It’s very unusual, we’ve never had any instance out in that area or actually anywhere in the county for that,” said Sheriff Perdue.
Deputies are now looking for an African American man in his mid-20s with short dreadlocks. He was last seen wearing sweatpants and a gray long sleeve shirt.
“We’re following up a couple leads that we’ve had,” said Sheriff Perdue. “We had some more this weekend that we’re working on still investigating it and investigating it very hard.”
The sheriff warns others to be extra careful. He recommends being vigilant and aware of surroundings. The sheriff says to not go walking or running alone but if you have to, don’t use headphones so you can stay alert.
