Veterinarians on standby at Breeders’ Cup

Lexington, Ky. (WTVQ) – Can you think of another sport where an ambulance follows directly behind the participants during the event other than horse racing? It serves as a reminder that it can be dangerous for both horse and jockey. To make sure all the horses are properly cared for and race-ready, along with being available in case of an accident or injury, some 30 veterinarians are at Keeneland this weekend for the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. Each veterinarian at the track hopes they won’t be needed, but know they’re a necessary safety net for the equine athletes.
