FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) – Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes will make an announcement about the state’s electronic voter registration system on Tuesday.
A legislative panel approved a new state regulation earlier this year allowing Kentuckians to register to vote online. Kentucky already allows people living overseas, including those serving in the military, to register to vote online.
The National Conference of State Legislatures says 23 states allow voters to register to vote online while another five plus the District of Columbia have not yet implemented their systems. The State Board of Elections says it will cost about $45,000 to implement the electronic voter registration system, with the money coming from the federal Help America Vote Fund, according to the Lexington Herald Leader.
