Same-sex marriage supporters rally in Rowan County

MOREHEAD, Ky. (WTVQ) – A day after Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis asked the United States Supreme Court to grant her “legal protection for her conscience,” dozens of people showed up at the County Courthouse Saturday morning, protesting her refusal to issue same-sex marriage licenses.

The Rowan County Clerk’s Office was scheduled to be open Saturday morning between 9 a.m. and noon, but as a few dozen protestors showed up at the courthouse, they never opened.

Two months after the historic Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide, there has been no marriage licenses issued at the Rowan County Courthouse.

On Friday, Davis appealing again her case again to the country’s highest court, the Supreme Court, for permission to keep denying marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
