On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge David L. Bunning ordered Rowan Co. Clerk Kim Davis to comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling which says gay marriage bans are unconstitutional.
Despite the order, the Clerk’s office denied marriage licenses to a few couples on Thursday morning.
A worker told the couples Davis was on vacation, and the County Judge Executive says he can’t help either. Now, protesters are there holding signs that said things like "Love Won" and "Do Your Job."
Davis has steadfastly refused to issue licenses to same-sex couples despite court rulings and orders. She argues that her right to religious freedom excuses her from doing it. She decided to not issue any marriage licenses.
