Building collapses in Lexington, investigation underway

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Fire investigators are trying to figure out what caused a Lexington building to collapse Saturday.

The two-story building at the corner of Third Street and Race Streets collapsed around 6:30 p.m., firefighters tell ABC 36 News.

The fire department says they first got calls from neighbors that reported that the building was shaking, but before firefighters arrived on the scene, it collapsed.

The fire department says they are trying to contact the owner of the building, but tell us they have been unsuccessful so far.

According to the fire department, the building is a total loss, but until they can contact the owner and demolish the building, the streets and sidewalks at the intersection will remain shut down.
