SNAP accepted at more farmers’ markets

Agriculture officials say the ad campaign includes video and radio spots as well as limited TV and print advertising.
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Agriculture Commissioner James Comer says 225 farmer’s markets in the state now have EBT equipment that can process SNAP benefits – ten times more than the 21 markets that accepted SNAP in 2010.

Commissioner Comer says, "“The EBT equipment helps farmers’ market customers buy nutritious local foods to serve to their families,” adding, “It also helps Kentucky farmers make a better living and stay on the farm."

Nationwide, farmers’ markets redeemed $16.6 million in SNAP benefits last year, compared to $4.2 million five years ago.
