Traffic Advisory: Back-to-school changes in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – To better handle traffic congestion on Cardinal drive during the school year, the Georgetown Police Department is trying a new strategy.

Starting August 5, 2015, Cardinal Drive will be a one way street flowing south from Long Lick Pike to US 25 during the hours of 7:45 am to 9:00 am and 3:00 pm to 4:15 pm. The right lane of travel will be for drop off and pick up for the high school and middle school. The left lane of travel will be reserved for bus traffic and vehicles wishing to leave the area.
 
There will be an officer posted at Long Lick and Cardinal Drive as well as crossing guards posted at Cardinal Drive and Cumberland Drive, the Main Entrance to the High School, the Ninth Grade Cross Walk and the Bus Entrance.

Parents and guardians dropping off or picking up children from Scott County Middle School are being asked to stay in the right lane up to the entrance of the Middle School. Upon exiting the Middle School, turn right (being mindful of oncoming traffic,) and once at the intersection of Cardinal Drive and US 25, use the right lane to turn right and the left lane to turn left.

Crossing guards will accommodate student with special needs as best as possible. Drivers with a special needs passenger are asked to inform the affected crossing guard with any specific needs or requests.
