Danzig Moon euthanized after being injured in race

(WTVQ)- The racehorse who came in 5th in the Kentucky Derby was reportedly euthanized today after breaking his hind leg during a race. According to Blood-Horse, Danzig Moon was hurt in the Plate Trial Stakes at Woodbine.

Blood-Horse says was Danzig was headed into the backstretch behind Midnight Trace when he broke down, fell back and collided with another horse. Jockey Julien Leparoux was riding Danzig Moon. Blood-Horse says Leparoux and another jockey were both thrown to the ground during the collision.

On Twitter, Leparoux’s wife Shea said, "Julien is ok, but we are heart broken over Danzig Moon such a beautiful animal."

Julien Leparoux also sent out a tweet that said, "RIP Danzig Moon… Very sad day."

Before racing in the Kentucky Derby, Danzig Moon came in as the runner-up in the Grade I Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland back in April.
