LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A special announcement Saturday night at the Lexington Legends game.
Honor Flight of the Bluegrass announced its 2015 flight from Lexington to Washington D.C.
This year’s flight will take place on September 26th and will leave out of the Blue Grass Airport.
Honor Flight is a program that takes America’s veterans to Washington D.C. to visit and reflect at the memorials.
Those who have accompanied veterans on the flight say it is a very moving experience.
"I’ve been on four flights and it’s the most emotional thing I think other than the birth of your children, and your marriage, and things like that. It’s just incredible," says Jeff Hohman, who serves on the board of the Honor Flight of the Bluegrass. "You get to spend the day with these heroes, and a lot of families tell us for the first time they open up about what they went through and what they did "
About 70 veterans along with their guests will be on the flight.
The public is invited to go to the airport and see them off.
