FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – In an effort to make emergency communications in Kentucky more efficient, Governor Steve Beshear is educating people this month about calling 911.
His office offers these tips for helping you stay safe:
- Only use 911 for emergencies. This means saving a life, stopping a crime, or reporting a fire or accident.
- Always be aware of your surroundings in case you need to tell an operator where you are quickly. Remember that cell phones may not automatically give a call center information about your location.
- If you accidentally call 911, stay on the line so you can let the receiver know there’s not an emergency.
When calling 911, don’t hang up first. Follow all instructions and answer all questions briefly and accurately.
