Friday was one of the first days the sun was out during the entire spring meet.
“The sun is shining, we’ve got plenty of beer and we’re happy,” said Lauren Zoeller despite her horse losing.
For the first time in history Keeneland cancelled races because of the weather on the opening day.
There were no races on Easter Sunday then a lot of rain. Keeneland says attendance has been down because of the poor weather.
But no matter the weather, Keeneland says the bets don’t stop.
“People not only bet on track but they can bet on various race tracks and wagering outlets around the country which is simulcasting,” says Amy Gregory with Keeneland.
This technology allows for money to come from all around the country even if rain keeps the crowds away.
“So we can have an off day with on track attendance but at the same time we can have increases in mutual handle,” says Gregory.
Beautiful weather is expected on Saturday and Keeneland expects big crowds. The first post is at 12:35.
All the races that were cancelled for the rain are expected to be rescheduled.
