"I think a lot of people underestimate the power of water," says Melton. According to the National Weather Service, 12 inches of moving water can take a small vehicle down the creek.
Deputies and fire crews in Franklin County were able to make a save on Tuesday night near Onan’s Bend. The driver was stuck outside of her driveway, which was flooded. She waited 15 to 20 minutes for crews to get there because of her location. By that time, water was already up her windows. She had decided to go visit her boyfriend.
"When you make that choice, you’re not just putting yourself at risk," says Melton.
Crews have performed several rescues sense Friday. The National Weather Service is predicting more rain, so if you encounter water over the roadway, remember this phrase: "Turn around, don’t drown."
