He said he knew to jump in his vehicle and back up quickly. However, the other deputy wasn’t so lucky. He was trapped between the mudslide and the collapsing road for about an hour and a half.
The road is currently blocked off, and the state will come in to fix it. This part of the road is next to the Kentucky River, and it has crumbled once before in the past few years.
About 200 nearby residents typically use Big Eddie Road. They can get to their homes from Johnson Road.
That part of the Kentucky River was about 36 feet on Monday. It has gone down about 4 feet since cresting, but it is still above flood stage. There is more rain in this week.
