High profile court cases in Fayette County go before a judge

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Some high profile court cases went before a judge in Lexington on Friday.

Duncan Park Shooting Death

A trial date has been set for the four people accused of the shooting death of Antonio Franklin Jr., 21.

Franklin was found shot in the head in Lexington’s Duncan Park in April 2014.

Nasheim Dixon is accused of the murder. William Dixon and Bryan Brown are both accused of attempted murder and Daymion Sanders is accused of manslaughter.

One of their attorneys asked the judge to dismiss a statement made my one of the suspects. The judge disagreed and says the statement can be used in court.

The trial is set to start December 7th. It is expected to last two weeks.

Gas Station Clerk Murder

Attorneys for the Commonwealth say they are still waiting for DNA samples from Travis Bredhold.

Bredhold is accused of shooting and killing gas station clerk Mike Patel December 2014.

Bredhold was suppose to have hair samples taken for DNA testing but the Commonwealth says his hair hasn’t been long enough to collect a proper sample. The judge told him not to cut his hair.

A trial date is expected to be set during his next court appearance.

Police: Hundreds of Child Porn Images on Lexington Man’s Computer

Now a guilty plea from a Lexington man charged with multiple counts of possessing child pornography.

Police say they found hundreds of images of child porn on David Browning’s computer. According to court documents, some of those images were of children under the age of eight.

Browning switched his not guilty plea to a guilty plea on Friday. In exchange for the plea, the Commonwealth dropped 15 of the 17 possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor charges.

The two counts Browning pleaded guilty to are considered class D felonies and each carries five years in jail. A judge will decided at his sentencing on May 15th if those charges can be served at the same time.

Two County Police Chase

Keenan McLaughlin’s defense council withdrew its notice for a mental health evaluation.

McLaughlin is accused of leading police on a two county chase that started in Scott County and wound up crossing into Fayette County, where the car officers were pursing crashed head-on into another vehicle, according to investigators. They say the impact on Georgetown Road left Luis Gonzales, 52, dead and another person critically injured.

His jury trial is still scheduled to start April 27.

Restaurant Manager Accused of Sexual Abuse

Stephen Habermehl’s case was continued to April 10th.

He’s a former Lexington restaurant manager accused of sexually abusing a teenage employee.

Court documents say Habermehl was accused of having sex with a 15-year-old employee while he was a manager of a Culver’s restaurant. He also faces charges of unlawful transaction with a minor for giving the teen marijuana while at work.

Ice Cream Truck Driver Accused of Sexual Abuse

The Commonwealth says it needs more time to prepare its case against Lewis Street.

Street is accused of sexual abuse and sodomy of a child. Court documents show he was an ice cream truck driver.
Attorneys for the Commonwealth say they still need to meet with people. Another status hearing was set for April 24th.
