FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky State Police are warning people of a phone scam that asks for donations for officers who have fallen in the line of duty.

According to investigators, the caller (who they say may identify himself as "Rick," and may call from a 270 area code,) will say he is with KSP or another police professional fundraiser.  The caller will want credit or bank card information to make the donation.  Police say when pressed for additional information, the caller will abruptly hang up.

KSP advises to check the authenticity of any phone solicitor by checking with the Kentucky Attorney General’s office (502-696-5300,) visiting their website, or contacting the Better Business Bureau.
