LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The University of Louisville’s second-ranking official is stepping down from her job.

Shirley Willihnganz, the school’s provost and executive vice president, informed faculty and staff of her decision in a letter Wednesday. She will serve as provost through June 30.

She then plans to take a sabbatical and will return to teaching in 2016.

UofL says her departure as provost was voluntary. University spokesman Mark Hebert told The Courier-Journal (http://cjky.it/1vtEA1t ) that it was unrelated to allegations made by former human resources executive Sam Connally.

Connally contended Willihnganz improperly favored Humana in bidding for a new university health insurance plan so Humana’s founder would make good on a $10 million pledge to the university.

Willihnganz was named provost in 2004.
