RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The autobiography of a Russellville journalist who is a member of the Gallery of Great Black Kentuckians is being re-released, with a book signing scheduled this month in the south-central Kentucky town.
In "Alone atop the Hill," Alice Dunnigan tells the story of growing up as a sharecropper’s daughter to become a journalist in the nation’s capital.
The book has been edited by Carol McCabe Booker and is being re-released by the University of Georgia Press. Booker will sign copies of the book at the event at 2 p.m. CST Feb. 19 at the African American Heritage Center.
The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights will hand out posters and bookmarks depicting Dunnigan.
Dunnigan wrote the story of her life in 1974. She died in 1983 at the age of 77.
