Lexington man sentenced for tax fraud and identity theft

Lexington, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Lexington man will serve 175 months in prison for tax fraud conspiracy and identity theft.  According to prosecutors, David L. Pierce, 52, admitted to leading a conspiracy to use stolen identities to file fraudulent tax returns. 

Pierce detailed taking elaborate steps to create fake returns with fellow conspirators in an attempt to defraud the United States.  According to the prosecution, over a two-year span, Pierce fraudulently claimed nearly $4 million dollars in tax refunds and received over $600,000 in payments from the Internal Revenue Service.

Three of Pierce’s co-conspirators have also been sentenced in the case.
