Police warn of kidnapping scam

Lexington police are warning parents of a phone scam that has already claimed three victims.  Police say in all three cases, a person called the home, and claimed to have kidnapped the family’s daughter, demanding money.  Investigators say the caller will threaten the well-being of the child if the caller won’t cooperate.

Police are alerting people that this is a scam.  Two of the three victims called were able to see through the false calls, though the third thought there was something to it.  Police advise anyone who receives a call like this to get as much information from the caller as possible, and try to keep them calm.

There is one common thread around these scams, all three victims are in the medical field.
