Weekend needs would also be evaluated.
With the sub-zero temperatures, the centers were set up to make sure no one was left out in the cold or without heat in their home.
The centers would operate from 8:00a.m. to 8:00p.m.
Anyone who needed to stay warm could come to the Senior Center at 1530 Nicholasville Road or the Dunbar Center at 545 North Upper Street.
The city said Lextran would provide free rides to the warming centers and shelters.
Other groups and organizations were also offering the community places to stay warm.
They included the New Life Day Center at 224 North Martin Luther King Boulevard and the Catholic Action Center at 400 East Fifth Street.
In addition, the Arbor Youth Services Street Outreach Center at 540 West Third Street also planned to be open.
