Two Lexington Police officers were involved in a shooting early Sunday morning.
In a press conference called by the police department, officials said two officers spotted suspicious vehicles near Berea Christian Church around 4:30 a.m. Officers said that narcotics transaction officers approached a grey pick-up truck and white car.
Police said the car sped off, nearly hitting the officers.
Officials said as the officers approached the truck, the driver began speeding toward the officers.
That’s when, officials said, officers Weslee Farley and Christopher Mason fired shots into the vehicle to protect themselves.
Officials said the driver of that vehicle, Joseph Kilburn of Scott County, was taken to UK Hospital. He was charged with wanton endangerment and fleeing and evading.
The case is still under investigation. Officers Farley and Mason were not injured but have been placed on administrative assignment according to the department.
