The request came ahead of the national ‘Wreaths Across America’ Day, which would take place on Saturday, Dec 13.
The Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs said the ceremonies at each veterans cemetery would include families, volunteers and others placing a wreath on each headstone.
The cost to sponsor each wreath was $15.
According to the state, there were more than 7,800 veterans and dependents interred at Kentucky Veterans Cemeteries.
Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown was still short of wreaths for about 100 headstones.

Donors who wanted to help purchase wreaths for Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville was asked to call Hazel Morrison with Fort Campbell Gold Star Wives at 931-920-2775 or 931-237-0415.
Information about donating money for wreaths at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff was directed to Donna Betson at 270-877-7066, or the cemetery office at 270-351-5115.
And anyone who wanted to give money to sponsor wreaths at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County, was asked to call or email Shelia Lenarz at 606-833-9370 or 606-922-6355, and email@example.com.
