BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — The Western Kentucky University Hall of Distinguished Alumni has three new members — retired U.S. Army Col. Gary "Mickey" Riggs, Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Rick Loomis and musician David "Doc" Livingston.
The Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/1xlhbwU) the 83-year-old Riggs resurrected WKU’s declining ROTC program and also helped save the football program. At the Friday ceremony, Riggs said he loves Western and was just doing his job.
Pam Thurman accepted on behalf of her father, Livingston, who is 89. Livingston was the university’s director of bands and a professor.
Loomis came to WKU after his employer said he needed a degree from "a real school" if he wanted to be a photojournalist. He said Friday that on a road trip to Kentucky he found WKU, but he also found "a family."
