Police Officer Saves Man Trapped In Car In Versailles

One Versailles police officer was in the right place at the right time when he witnessed a car accident that trapped the driver Friday morning.

Officer Scott Cottingham said he was patrolling a scarcely traveled area of Woodford County when a man drove off the road and into South Elkhorn Creek.

Cottingham said the man was heading toward Lexington on Old Frankfort Pike around 1 a.m.

He said the driver was speeding along the curve before he landed in the water.

Cottinngham said when he got to the car he found the man trapped in his vehicle.

Fire crews and paramedics got the man out of the vehicle in about 10 minutes, according to Cottingham.



The driver is expected to be okay but was taken to the hospital for minor cuts and bruises.

Police have not figured out if wet roads played a part in the accident.
