On a gloomy looking day, Madison County Chief Deputy Anthony Terry predicted gloom for the area’s drug dealers.

With federal help, the county has a new resource to combat drug use.

Madison County will now participate in a federal drug task force.  It’s called the Appalachian High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area.  The task force has a primary focus.

"Heroin will be our focus.  Heroin is the direct result now of what prescription pills was several years ago.  So, it’s an offset, and that will be our target," said Terry.

Plans are just beginning, but Terry expects Richmond Police, Berea Police, and State Police to be involved.  The federal government will help with training, technology, and intelligence on where the drugs come from.
