Dozens of dogs, several cats, goats, a goose, coyote, turtle and several stuffed animals were blessed Sunday at the Fourth Annual Blessing at the Old Fayette County Courthouse.
The Rev. Carol Wade of Christ Church Cathedral conducted the ceremony and the Choristers of Christ Church Cathedral sang for the crowd. LexHistory had games and Naturalists brought wildlife and conservation information.
Several animal welfare agencies brought adoptable dogs to be blessed and to meet people who were considering adopting a pet.
The tradition of Blessing the Animals was begun as a way to honor Francis of Assisi, the beloved, twelfth century Italian. Francis was best known and remembered for his love for animals and the environment.
