It happened at the Talon Winery off Tates Creek Road. Firefighters said they had to put out the fire on the tractor and work on the field as it started to burn. They even had the help of a police helicopter, searching to look for other places the flames may have spread.
Fire crews said a recent dry spell didn’t help with containing the fire.
"The wind is blowing quite a bit today too. so once it got going, it spread quickly over that 10 or 15 acres, and again it makes it a little bit dangerous, so you’ve really got to know how to battle those grass fires. the changing conditions can be devastating if you don’t know what you’re doing," said battalion chief Mark Harvey.
In all about 15 acres were burned, no grape vines were harmed in the process.
