Statistics also revealed that injuries to citizens and firefighters also dropped significantly in 2013, with 17 incidents recorded for residents and five for fire crews. In 2012, 27 citizens were reportedly hurt, along with 13 firefighters.
Officials credit an increased workforce in the Fire Prevention Bureau and on city fire trucks, as well as a reintroduction of the smoke detector program and more inspections of high risk areas.
Education efforts have also gone up. Fire crews reported they are now informing young adults and the elderly on fire safety, on top of maintaining safety lessons with children.
