House Speaker Greg Stumbo’s Kentucky minimum wage bill successfully made its way through the House of Representatives on Thursday and will now advance to the State Senate.

House Bill 1 calls for minimum wage in the Bluegrass to rise from its current rate of $7.25 to $8.20 on July 1.

It would continue to go up in yearly increments until it hits $10.10 on July 1, 2016.

Kentucky’s minimum wage has remained at $7.25 since 2007, and according to Stumbo, the increase would help an estimated 400,000 of the state’s workers.
