Vilsack said the plan is to grow rural economies and create jobs in areas that struggle consistently with poverty.
Since 2010, the USDA has used StrikeForce to assist with over 80,000 projects and brought in nearly $10 billion in investments to rural America.
In 2013’s fiscal year, this money included nearly $9.3 million to fund microloans in StrikeForce areas, 84 percent of which were given to socially disadvantaged and beginning farmers.
$68 million went to fund projects with the Rural Housing Community Facilities Program.
