From KHSAA Release:

In researching the all-time coaching record for Billy Hicks, the KHSAA has uncovered two articles by the Associated Press from the fall of 1979 confirming that Evarts High School did in fact forfeit all of its games from the 1978-79 season due to the participation of ineligible players.  This information was confirmed through the review of Board of Control minutes from that time period. Due to this finding, the KHSAA cannot credit coach Hicks with the 10 wins from the 1978-79 season. 

According to KABC records, coach Hicks entered the season with an all-time record of 817-241. The KHSAA has worked alongside coach Hicks to update his records for the 1997-98, 1998-99, 1999-00 and 2001-02 seasons – adding missing wins and losses.

There are still discrepancies for the following seasons in what the KABC records show compared to what coach Hicks’ records show:

1982-83 (Evarts) – KABC 19-10; Hicks 20-10
1991-92 (Corbin) – KABC 33-4; Hicks 31-5
1992-93 (Corbin) – KABC 24-6; Hicks 30-5
1993-94 (Corbin) – KABC 28-5; Hicks 31-4
1994-95 (Scott Co.) – KABC 27-6; Hicks 28-6 

With that in mind, as of 5 p.m. on Jan. 17, the KHSAA has coach Hicks’ all-time record as 837-244. Coach Hicks’ records (with the adjustment for the 1978-79 season), show an unverified all-time record of 846-243.
