Lexington police have tacked on wanton murder and assault to the list of charges originally issued by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office.
The police chase started in Scott County and wound up crossing into Fayette County, where the car officers were pursuing crashed head-on into another vehicle, according to investigators.
They said the impact on Georgetown Road left 62-year-old Luis Gonzalez dead and another person critically injured.
Officers said Keenan McLaughlin, the driver they were after, got out of his car and ran away from the accident.
This led to a manhunt that grew so massive that an air search was eventually needed.
Police said they found McLaughlin at a house on East Second Street, where he faced them in a standoff that lasted several hours.
Officers said the standoff ended peacefully.
The Scott County Sheriff charged McLaughlin with drug trafficking, fleeing and evading police, and leaving the scene of an accident.
McLaughlin pleaded not guilty through video conference on Thursday. His bond was set at $29,100 full cash bond.
His next court appearance is January 24th.
