On Wednesday, December 4, 1,463 students and adults gathered at Lexington Catholic for mass, then exchanged gifts.
The previous world record was 1,270, and Guinness still has to verify the numbers from Lexington Catholic.
Per Guinness rules, guests and students were required to arrive with their wrapped, anonymous gift and walk through turnstiles – supplied by the Lexington Legends. Each participant also carried a piece of paper for number verification purposes.
They deposited their gifts – each addressed to a specific recipient – into one of 15 bins and then entered the LCHS Bueter Gymnasium. After an Advent mass, the 15 gift bins were placed in front of the correct group of recipients, then distributed and opened.
LCHS provided a large bin as the guests exited the building for anyone wishing to donate their secret Santa gift to those less fortunate. Gifts will be distributed to local agencies in time for Christmas.
