Kentucky State Police launched a new program Tuesday morning to help schools prevent and prepare for an active shooter situation.

The program will have 4 levels schools can choose to use based on the current state of their safety measures.

Troopers can review a school’s current safety plan, assist with lockdowns, or create an active shooter situation inside a school for teachers to learn in.

One portion of the program also trains school staff to identify indicators of future student violence.

The program is voluntary for each school district and is free for the school.

Each district in Kentucky has been notified of the new program.
