Exactly seven years ago, the Bardstown Police hired Jason Ellis. It should have been a happy day.
"We are saying farewell," said Police Chief Rick McCubbin.
Bardstown’s never had a funeral like this, because it’s never had a police officer killed. Friends and family spoke about how Jason was the ultimate family man.
"If I’ve ever seen a man who is head over heals in love with his wife it was Jason," said his brother-in-law.
We estimate 1,000 police officers came from all over the country. Ellis was a K-9 Officer. We found a K-9 officer with his partner who drove 9 hours from Greencastle, PA.
"Just heartfelt sympathy for his family. I have kids of my own and married, and I couldn’t imagine them going on without me. Tremendously we’ll worth it, not a big deal driving back tonight," said Keith Russell from the Greencastle Police.
Ellis is survived by his wife Amy and two young sons.
The murder shook the police brotherhood and the entire community of Bardstown.
The reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction is now more than $100,000.
