Community Members prepare to lay Bardstown Police Officer Jason Ellis, who was shot and killed early Saturday morning, to rest.
More than 2,200 flags were posted along the funeral procession route.
“These guys have got to be made aware that they’re special,” Larry Eckhartt, who supplied the flags, said.
“If you don’t think these guys are important, need them sometime, and have they not show up. These guys give as much as our soldiers do. They really do,” Eckhartt said.
Ellis’ funeral will be held Thursday at Parkway Baptist Church in Bardstown at 11 a.m.
Ellis worked with a K-9 unit and now his dog Fido is without his partner.
Nelson County Deputy Jerry Hardin is taking care of the canine for the time being. He said Fido will be retiring from police work and will live with Ellis’ wife and children.
