Lexington Police said the boy was walking through the crosswalk at Redding and Lansdowne with his guardian when a 17-year-old driver went through a stop light, and failed to stop for the crossing guard.
Police said the 6-year-old boy was sent to UK Hospital with a broken leg. He is expected to be okay. Police said charges are pending against the 17-year-old driver since they are a juvenile.
Lexington Police said they have received numerous reports of people not obeying the safety laws outside of elementary schools since students went back to school earlier this month. They are encouraging people to obey the speed limit, scrape all the ice off their windshields, and to obey the crossing guards.
Police said they are beginning to crack down on those who don’t follow the safety rules at elementary schools across the city.
