Police said Thursday that they have investigated almost as many car break-ins in July as they did in the entire month of May.
Police said there were 226 thefts reported in May and 239 in June.
There have already been 218 reported in July.
Investigators said the crimes have happened in all sections of the city, with a higher number reported in the Beaumont Centre area and at shopping malls.
Police offered the following safety tips to reduce your chances of becoming a victim:
- Lock your vehicle.
- Keep windows and sunroofs closed.
- Hide your valuables.
- Don’t leave your keys in the vehicle.
- Stow your valuables before arrival.
- Trust your instincts.
Police said too often people create a crime of opportunity by leaving keys in unlocked vehicles and valuables in plain sight.
