WEA, or Wireless Emergency Alerts system, is a new safety tool that allows cell phone users to receive text-like messages for free alerting them of imminent threats to their safety.
WEA enables government officials to target these alerts to specific geographic areas…even if you are just visiting a city.

The types of alerts include extreme weather, such as tornado and flash flood warnings, amber alerts, and alerts issued by the president during a national emergency.
This is all possible without having to download an app or subscribe to a service.

WEA messages will not interrupt your phone conversation and you are able to opt-out of the service.
To see if this service is available on your phone, just call your cell phone provider.
