A Messy Monday

Good Sunday evening, everybody.

It's been a chilly, wet Sunday with steady rain this morning that tapered to rain showers and drizzle in the afternoon. We're gradually turning colder, not just near the ground, but also aloft. Sunday night's low should be near 34.

Overnight into early on Monday morning, expect the light rain showers to mix with, and eventually change to snow showers. The flurries and snow showers will cross Kentucky on Monday, with a period of steadier, light snow possible in the afternoon or early evening hours. The 3 PM to midnight time frame is what I'm most concerned about, with slippery roads probable for the evening commute.

I expect 1/2" to 1" for Central Kentucky, but 1-3" for those of you in the high ground of southeastern Kentucky (virtually all areas south and east of Jackson and London).

I expect Monday's high to be around 37, and we should fall to around 26 on Monday night.

Tuesday will be mostly cloudy and cold, with a high again around 37.

The next storm system will pull in late on Wednesday, but milder air should surge northward ahead of it. After a Wednesday high of 48, we'll see some rain develop toward evening. Similar to this weekend's storm, it will turn colder as the storm pulls away, so the rain should change to snow early on Thursday.

Friday looks downright cold, but mostly sunny. I think temperatures on Friday will only limp above freezing by a couple of degrees.

Snow showers and flurries will come back into the forecast next weekend as the chilly, unsettled weather pattern continues.
