Record-setting cool weather continued into this Friday morning in eastern Kentucky before we warmed up nicely during the day. Here are Friday morning's low temperatures:
Bowling Green: 58
Frankfort: 63
Jackson: 56 (beat old record for July 3rd, which was 57 set in 1988)
Huntington, WV: 59
Lexington: 61
London: 56 (tied record for July 3rd, initially set in 1967)
Louisville: 62
The big holiday weekend is here -- but the weather will impact SOME of our plans. Here's your forecast...
On this Friday night, we'll cool down to 62 degrees under some patchy clouds.
Independence Day will begin dry, with mostly cloudy skies, and we should warm up to around 80 degrees. Late in the afternoon, through the evening, and into the overnight hours, scattered thunderstorms will arrive from west to east, and some of the rain will be heavy. This should not be a steady rain, but most of us will see at least one thunderstorm by midnight. Some of the storms from the metro area westward could become severe late on Saturday. Heavy showers and thunderstorms will continue overnight and into Sunday. On Sunday, the severe threat will be limited to far southeastern Kentucky, with leftover showers and perhaps a weaker thunderstorm in central Kentucky. Sunday's high will also be near 80, and we should dry out late in the day.
The workweek will be much brighter and we all should be dry from Monday through Friday, thanks to a large area of high pressure drifting overhead. We will gradually turn warmer with time. Highs will be near 82 on Monday... but by Friday, we should reach 93 degrees. |
